The most profitable options are sometimes found outside the site. If the plant is situated in the vicinity of other plants or a city, selling heat and electricity externally may be an excellent business opportunity.
If the plant is located in an industrial cluster, it may be possible to sell heat to neighbouring sites.
Recovered heat can also be sold for use in district heating, fish breeding, greenhouse heating, etc.
For plants where heat recovery offers the opportunity to increase electricity generation, the new possible power output may be greater than needed in the plant. In this is the case, it may be possible to sell the surplus to neighbouring plants or to the grid.
Below the recovered energy can be sold externally as district heating or to a neighbouring plant. If heat recovery leads to increased co-generation, electricity may be sold to the grid.
